On November 2nd, give St. Joseph County a fresh voice in local government.
Elect Thomas Zmyslo, Sr. for County Council District A.
About Thomas
A lifelong resident of South Bend, Thomas Zmyslo's impact on the community can be seen throughout the long history of contributions he has made. Alongside Diane, his wife of 42 years, the Zmyslos contributions span their church and neighborhood, the military and the business community.
A graduate of Washington High School in 1965, Zmyslo was drafted into the U.S. military at the height of the Viet Nam War where he served two years in the U.S. Army at a European post. Upon receiving his honoroable discharge with the rank of sergeant, Zmyslo returned to South Bend where he and Diane settled to raise their family. Four children and eight grandchildren later, both Thomas and Diane are still proud to call St. Joseph County their home.
Following his return from military service, Thomas went to work for Bendix Corporation (Allied Signal/Honeywell), where he spent thirty years until his retirement. While at Bendix, he spent several years at the bargaining table, representing the UAW Local #9. During an economic downturn in the early 1990's, Zmyslo found himself laid off temporarily from the company. He used that time to start a local business, Tom's Care Care Center. The company continues today, operated by Thomas's son since 2001. Today, Zmyslo owns and manages TDZ Properties, a real estate and development company.
Zmyslo's contributions to the community are not limited to his business efforts. He and Diane have been active members at the Corpus Christi Parish, serving in various church leadership positions for thirty-seven years. Zmyslo remains active in his UAW efforts, serving as Retiree Chairman for Local #9. He has served 18 years on the AAA Credit Union Board of Directors, in addition to serving as co-chair of his German Township Neighborhood Association.
When not volunteering, he and Diane enjoy boating, old cars, bicycling, gardening and politics. Zmyslo has three times sought office as County Commissioner.
The Zmyslo family appreciates the support shown by voters, friends and neighbors as Thomas seeks to represent the residents of District A.
